It is respectfully requested., therefore, that The Ford Foundation grant to the University an amount equal to the amount the University is able to raise, in the program indicated, for endowment funds, the amount being no larger than $2,887,500.00. It is suggested that it be payable over the campaign period ac-cording to the amounts accumulated by the University prior to June, 1960. Calculating the expense of such a campaign at ten percent (10ó) of the total to be received, the amount necessary to finance the effort would be $288,750.00. This percentage would probably be necessary in view of several facts: little is now known about the University, except among a comparatively small group of friends and informed "Middle Easterners"; the campaign would need to be conducted all over America and also the Middle East. The first fact would entail considerable print-ing, mailing and organization, and the second, considerable travel. The distribution of the cost'over the period of the campaign must, again, wait for the development of plans and program., but in an effort to arrive at a total support request of the Ford Foundation, broken down in the series of five years, an arbitrary distribution is made here as follows: 1957-58 Period of planning, preparation and organization. .$50,000.00 1958-59 Beginning and conducting of campaign . .100,000.00 1959-60 Conduct and conclusion . .1e8,750.00 Total $288,750.00 It is respectfully requested that The Ford Foundation grant the amount in the sum indicated for campaign expenses as and if the program requires it. (If possible, the cost will be kept below this, and the unused portion will not, then, be drawn from the Foundation.) Putting all the requests together, the following table indicates the total asked over the five-year period. It is assumed, in this Table, that the campaign will be successful and the full amount will be secured, and further, that the entire ten percent allocated for expenses will be spent for that purpose. f
