Report of Committee on Buildings and Grounds 1950-51 The Committee on Buildings and Grounds has been occupied this year with item„ connected with '.he 3onstructi on of the student Hostel. Three meetings of the Committee were held during the year: one on June 14 in Philadelphia, one on September 19 in Baltimore, and one on November 16 in Philadelphia. In accordance with authorization from the Finance Committee, bids were received from construction companies in Egypt through President Badeaue After consultation by telephone with Mr. Harbison, Chairman of the Finance Committee, it was voted THAT the President and Council be authorized to accept the lowest bid of L.E.20,639.234 submitted by the Egyco con-struotion company for that portion of the work on the Hostel known as the "Gros Oeuvre" which represents between 50 and 52% of the final "key-in-hand" building o os is . It was reported that L.E.30,000 had been received from a Cairo friend to finance the construction of the hostel. Upon his return to Egypt in January Dr. Badeau will discuss this advance with the donor so that a clear understanding of its terms will be had. At the meeting of September 19, Dr. Badeau reported on the development of Midan Ismailia facing the University, on the progress of the Hostel construction from September 13, 1950, when preliminary plans were first sent to this Committee, to September 12, 1951, when the pile driving was finished, also on possible rep lacements for the main (the Khairy Palace), the city building proposal cf an additional storey on the School of Oriental Studies, and possible disposal of sections of the suburban property.
