224 (7) - Administration and Organization= Under this heading last year, there was reference to the danger of too great a departmentalization in our present organization and the need for working more completely as a united organization. This problem was brought before our staff in Cairo and the general feeling was that there would be organizational loss if the Departments were all merged under one administration and were to become mere-ly committee organizations. At the same time the need for generous cooperation between Departments and the maintenance of the corporate unity of the Uni-versity was recognized. Two observations made have Liipressed me and I think them worth recording. The first is that the unity of the University's life and the pro-motion of inter-departmental cooperation require constant emphasis and that emphasis should logically be maintained through the presence and leadership of the President on the field. His repeated and extended absences in America in promotion work have obviously been a disadvantage to the development of this element in the University life. The second is that after all there has been no inconsiderable amount of inter-departmental cooperation, e.g. Dr. Jeffery of the 6.0.S. taught "Science of Language" in the college Dr. McClenahan of the S.O.S. taught "Bible" in the College. Mr. McÇuiston of the College taught "Biology" in Teacher's College. Air Boktor of Teachers' College taught Psychology in the College. Amir Boktor of Teachers' College taught "Contemporaneous History" in the College Mr. Cleland of the Division of Extension taught Educational Psychology and Methods in Teachers' College. Mr. Cleland of the Lxtension Division served as Acting Bursar for the whole University. John Rizcl of the Extension Division carried the summer advertising arrangements for the Uollege . CONCLUSION Once again, we wish to express our gratitude for marry tokens of God' d blessing upon our work, especially for that spirit of good will and friendliness that has marked our relations with the Egyptian public. To the Trustees, I would express, in behalf of our entire staff, our sincere appreciat-ion of their devotion in carrying for the University so many financial and administrative anxieties. The staff was deeply touched by their generous and thoughtful restoration of a portion of the salary reductions unavoidably made during the depression. Personally and officially, I am ever grateful for the presence in America, as ecretary of the Board, of Mr. Lum, whose hopeful outlook blended with good judgment and rare practical gifts, make it a joy to work with him.
