The water balance and improved subsurface drainage methods in a clayey agricultural field in Jokioinen (south-western Finland) were studied with a mathematical FLUSH model. The objective was to investigate the effects of hydrological interaction of four experimental fields, the effects of different drainage methods, the influence of topography and the reasons for the natural differences in the groundwater levels between the field sections. Calibration-validation period and paired catchment method were applied in the study.
