Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) is relatively new field of research even though cellulose itself is widely studied. MFC is very hydrophilic which is caused by many hydroxyl groups of cellulose chain. Because of strong hydrophilicity MFC can't be dispersed into most polymers. MFC form gel-like suspension when binding large amount of water to its structure. When water is removed MFC aggregates. After aggregation it is very difficult to recover its nanostructure. In this master's thesis possibility to coat MFC with water-soluble polymer was investigated. Water-soluble layer on MFC could prevent aggregation of nanofibrils when drying.
