Newfoundland on Film 06; Newfoundlanders at war

Consists of three films on the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. The first two were shot during World War 1 and are silent. The first film (1st Newfoundland Overseas Regiment. Depot: Newton-on-Ayr, Scotland) shows the men training, a boxing contest between Sergt. J. Williams and Pte. D. Piercey, a wrestling contest between Corpl. A. Hammond and Pte. A. Rendall and other activities. The second film features visits to various spots in Great Britain, regimental turn-out and horse parade and other activities.The third was shot during World War 2 and shows the mail from Newfoundland going to the men in the forestry operations, the field gunners, the 166, the 55th, the men in the navy and the men in the airforce.The first part of the first film shows ends with the words "end of part 2". In the third film the commentary is spoken by Mr. Jack Murphy, assistant Trade Commissioner. All the films are from the collection at the Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador.
