Recording of the ceremony commemorating the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Beaumont Hamel on July 16, 1916, at the Beaumont Hamel Newfoundland Memorial. The Newfoundland Regiment was decimated in this battle, a part of the Battle of the Somme. The Memorial is on thirty acres on the site and includes a new visitors centre. Hosted by Arlene King, Director of the memorial, the ceremony includes speeches by Brian Tobin, Minister of Industry for Canada and Jean-Pierre Masseret, France's Minister of Veteran Affairs; wreathlaying by numerous dignitaries and military and veterans' organizations. Also included is the official opening of the new Visitors' Centre with a speech by Newfoundland Lieutenant Governor A. Maxwell House and a brief tour...
