Metode za praćenje točke maksimalne snage imaju zadatak maksimalizirati iskoristivost fotonaponskog sustava. Pricip djelovanja fotonaponske ćelije prikazati će se uspoređivanjem različit ih metoda za praćenje točke maksimalne snage. Pasivne metode dimenzionirane su zasebno za svaki sustav, te ne uzimaju u obzir kratkotrajne promjene u radnim uvjetima. Aktivne metode zahtijevaju mjerenje jednog ili više parametra na osnovu kojih algoritam računa položaj nove radne točke.
