While Lester usually builds his boats 24-25 feet long, this one is 23 feet long due to difficulty finding quality timber long enough for keel and planks. In this boat, Lester used juniper for the ribs, spruce for the keel, stem, and stern knee, and she’s finished with spruce planking. At one time fir was preferred for the boat’s planks, but invasive insects have damaged local fir trees and forced many builders to switch to spruce
