Farm labour is a resource which has been given less research attention in past years than it has deserved. This is true both from the point of view of efficient resource use as well as from a social and rural community point of view. In addition, socio economic factors have been identified as contributing to the lowered rate of growth in the New Zealand agricultural sector in the 1970's. This study is an attempt to collect and report data on the farm worker's economic situation and attitudes which are both highly relevant to an assessment of social and economic policies associated with farm labour
