Document: Bureau of Reclamation Appendix to Pacific Southwest Water Plan "Bureau of Reclamation", August 1963 page 1Bureau of Reclamation The Bureau of Reclamation is the Federal water resource development, planning, construction, and operating agency in the Colorado River Basin. It has been functioning in this capacity for years, starting with the Salt River and Yuma Projects and progressing through the Boulder Canyon, Parker, Davis, and Gila Projects in the Lower Colorado River Basin, and is now constructing the Colorado River Storage Project in the Upper Basin. With respect to the Colorado River Basin, drainage boundaries have not been recognized as a restricting barrier to water development and use for years. Waters from the Colorado River are being, or will shortly be, diverted from the Colorado Basin to be mingled with the waters of the Central Utah Basin and the Platte, Arkansas, Rio Grande, Los Angeles, Owens, Senta Ana, San Diego, Sacramento, and San Joaquin Rivers. As water needs become more critical in the West, river basin boundaries will become even less rigid in water and land resource development. Areas in each of the seven Reclamation Regions have water problems which can be met only by coordinated planning. Water resources in Arizona, southern California, Nevada, western New Mexico, and southwestern Utah have been considered in connection with the Phase I and Phase II parts of the Pacific Southwest Water Plan. 1Epson Perfection 4870 Photo, 400 dpi, 8 bit, 2,550,717 byte
