At the present time, the Arizona Game and Fish Department has three waterfowl areas along the Colorado River. Totaling 4,141 acres, they are known as the Topock, Cibola, and Mittry Lake Waterfowl Management Areas. Currently, these areas have a total annual consumptive use of 7,150 acre-feet, as follows; Topock, 550; Cibola, 3,950; and Mittry Lake, 2,650. To develop and manage these areas properly, there is a need for a total annual diversion of 24,600 acre-feet and a total annual consumptive use of 14,500 acre-feet, as follows; diversions of 1,600 acre-feet for Topock, 8,000 for Gibola, and 15,000 for Mittry Lake; consumptive use of 1,100 acre-feet for Topock, 8,000 for Gibola, and 5,400 for Mittry Lake.
