EL TURISMO COMO NUEVA FUENTE DE INGRESOS PARA EL MEDIO RURAL DE CASTILLA Y LEÓN

     The Autonomous Community of Castilla y León represents one of the Spanish regions that more is investing in rural tourism as an economic activity that supplements or substitutes to the traditional agricultural activities in rural areas. The outstanding growth that experiences this activity of services in the last years, has been favored by the expansion of the demand of this variety of tourism that has had answer from the side of the supply, with a notable increment of the number of establishments and of lodging rooms. This productive activity is very important for the improvement of the economic opportunities of the rural areas, being part of the performances included in the different strategies of rural development, specially if the area presents competitive advantages in cultural, architectural and environmental resources. This project attempts to analyze the evolution experienced by the supply and the demand of rural tourism in Castilla and León in the last years, as well as the economic repercussion and the contribution to the development of the areas where it is located.     La Comunidad Autónoma de Castilla y León representa actualmente una de las regiones españolas que más está invirtiendo en el sector del turismo rural como una actividad económica que complementa o sustituye a las tradicionales actividades agrícolas dentro de sus zonas rurales. El creciente impulso que experimenta desde hace algunos años esta actividad de servicios, se ha visto favorecido por la expansión de la demanda de esta variedad de turismo, que ha tenido respuesta desde el lado de la oferta turística, con un notable incremento del número de establecimientos y de plazas de alojamiento. El papel de esta actividad productiva como medio para la mejora de las oportunidades económicas de las zonas rurales se considera muy importante, formando parte de las actuaciones incluidas en las diferentes estrategias de desarrollo rural, en particular si la zona presenta ventajas comparativas en riqueza paisajística, cultural, arquitectónica, etc. Al hilo de lo expuesto, este trabajo analizará cuantitativamente la evolución que en los últimos años ha experimentado tanto la oferta como la demanda de turismo rural en Castilla y León, así como su repercusión económica y su contribución al desarrollo de las zonas donde se localiza
