PENGARUH PENETRASI BARAT DALAM PEREDARAN KOMODITAS CANDU DI INDONESIA ABAD KE-17 HINGGA KE-20

Yayasan Amphioen dibubarkan pada tahun 1794 yang diganti dengan pacht opium dengan sistem lelang hak dagang yang berakibat pada kemunculan bandar-bandar tol di bawah para pedagang Tionghoa selama dasawarsa 1820-an. Perusahaan Nederlandsche Handels Maatschappij milik Kerajaan Belanda lalu mengambil alih semua pacht opium serta memperoleh semua keuntungan perdagangan besar maupun kecil sejak 1827. Pemerintah kolonial kemudian menerapkan opium regie pada 1902 sehingga perdagangan opium berada di bawah pengawasan langsung Departemen Keuangan Pemerintah Hindia Belanda.
