Il kūttu e il bharata nāṭyam rappresentano i due principali stili di danza dei tamil dello Sri Lanka. Negli ultimi decenni, molti coreografi hanno cercato di realizzare una sintesi tra i due stili, con il duplice obiettivo di far rivivere i repertori tradizionali e di valorizzare queste pratiche coreutiche, precedentemente mantenute separate sulla base delle differenze di casta.
