Abstract Whatever the number of slaves who inhabited the region of Tucuman in colonial times, these were mostly in a state of relative invisibility, and they were considered as «trade objects» that could be used in several labours for their white masters. Is not the intention of this article to argue about the number and general conditions of slavery in colonial America in the space of Tucumán in particular, but to noted that despite the relative invisibility situation of the African people and African descent, there are a number of occasions on which the slaves came to light.
