Pedagogical factors influencing pupil achievement at the primary education level

The diploma thesis Pedagogical factors influencing pupil achievement at the primary education level aims to establish the pedagogical factors which could improve the learning outcomes of Slovenian pupils. The Slovenian educational system has been thus compared to the Finnish educational system since the latter is very successful and ranked top in international research. I have been dealing with the factors which have influence on the majority of the class and the students who are achieving poor learning outcomes. The diploma thesis therefore presents the structure of the Finnish and Slovenian educational system, the focus being on basic education. I got familiar with the goals and principles on which basic education is based, curriculum or programme of basic education, educational staff, financing of educational systems, cross-curricular connections, differentiation and individualisation and, of course, working methods and approaches. Moreover, classroom observations were carried out in Slovenia and Finland. The diploma thesis is not strictly divided into the theoretical and empirical part: the results of classroom observations are included and explained throughout the content of the diploma thesis.
