I got to Liverpool July 1st by the Etruria and feeling sure you were off to Spain gave up all hope in my infantile loneliness of finding. Most of the time since then I couldn’t even find myself and yet on the whole I’ve had a sort of good time. I went to Edinburgh and there David Douglas a publisher [Page 2] to whom I had a letter took pity on me and looked after me. Then I went to Dunbar and found a cousin and the old home and the school where I was thrashed. Thence back to Edinburgh – then to Dumfries, then to Sterling and through the Trossacks to Oban – to Leith and thence to Norway....
