Taking into consideration the repetitive abuse of democratic mechanisms and language by dictatorial and totalitarian governments, it is aim of this paper to propose the political sense of the democracy. Under the perspective ofthe post-Foundational Political ftoughtof Hanna Arendt and Lefort, first of all, this paper explores the relation democracy – totalitarianism. Secondly, the text evidences that modern democracy visibilizes politics as a space profoundly marked by uncertainty, disagreement and contingency.
