The legend of Apollonius belongs to the type of fictive literature known as the Greek romance cultivated by the Greek-speaking peoples of the Mediterranean during the first to fourth century and which was translated into Latin and romance languages. But the original text in Greek has been lost. A Spanish version appeared in the thirteenth century, written seemingly by an unknown cleric and in the erudite form of cuaderna vía (four-fold way), whose style has been called mester de clerecía(scholarsʼ art)as compared with mester de juglaría(minstrelsʼ work). This time, a translation is made from the first strophe to the strophe 180
