Translation with commentary: with special emphasis on culture-specific items and explicitation

This thesis comprises six translations with commentary. Excerpts from four books were translated from English into Croatian (Willetts, David: A University Education, Kenneth, Christie: United States Foreign Policy and National Identity in the Twenty- First Century, Evans Caroline B. R. and Smokowski Paul R.: Bullying and Victimization Across the Lifespan: Playground Politics and Power, and Pickering Michael.: Stereotyping: The Politics of Representation), and two from Croatian into English (Karakaš, Damir: Sjećanje šume and Borić, Marijana: Faust Vrančić - portret izumitelja). The commentary focused on the translation of culture-specific items and terms with a special emphasis on the method of excplicitation. Each text is followed by a discussion about translation solutions employed, with regard to text type, register and the intended target audience.Ovaj se rad sastoji od šest prijevoda s popratnim komentarima o prijevodnim problemima i rješenjima. Dijelovi iz četiri knjige prevedeni su s engleskoga na hrvatski (Willetts, David: A University Education, Kenneth, Christie: United States Foreign Policy and National Identity in the Twenty- First Century, Evans Caroline B. R. i Smokowski Paul R.: Bullying and Victimization Across the Lifespan: Playground Politics and Power, i Pickering Michael.: Stereotyping: The Politics of Representation), te dijelovi iz dvije knjige s hrvatskoga na engleski (Karakaš, Damir: Sjećanje šume i Borić, Marijana: Faust Vrančić - portret izumitelja). U raspravi se glavni naglasak stavlja na prijevodnu strategiju eksplicitacije pri prijevodu kulturno specifičnih elemenata i termina. Iza svakog teksta slijedi rasprava o primijenjenim prijevodim rješenjima, koji su ovisili o vrsti teksta, njegovom registru te čitateljima ciljnog jezika kojima bi tekst bio namijenjen
