Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia that occurs because the pancreas is unable to secrete insulin, insulin work disorders, or both, resulting in long-term damage and failure of various organs such as the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart, and blood vessels when in a state of chronic hyperglycemia.
