Urban fantasy literature as a way of conceptualizing the city - analysis on the selected examples

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie na wybranych przykładach możliwości, jakimi dysponuje literatura urban fantasy w zakresie konceptualizowania miasta, rozumianego zarówno jako miejsce, jak i powiązane z nim zjawiska. W trzech kolejnych rozdziałach zanalizowane zostają główne cechy przestrzeni miejskiej w omawianych utworach ("Nigdziebądź" Neila Gaimana, "Wizard of the Pigeons" Megan Lindholm, "LonNiedynie" Chiny Mieville’a oraz "Chochołach" Wita Szostaka), jej związki z historią, a także relacje do różnorodnych teorii przestrzeni i praktyk przestrzennych.The aim of this thesis is to examine - based on a selected examples - the possibilities urban fantasy literature has in the scope of conceptualizing the city, the latter understood both as a place and phenomena connected with it. In three subsequent chapters main characteristics of urban space in analysed works (Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, Megan Lindholm’s Wizard of the Pigeons, China Mieville’s Un Lun Dun and Wit Szostak’s Chochoły), its closeness to history and relations to various theories of space and practices of space are scrutinized
