Techniką, którą stosowano podczas badań w laboratorium była elektroforeza kapilarna. Głównym elementem aparatury stosowanej do CE jest cienka kapilara zbudowana ze stopionej krzemionki, w której rozdzielenie substancji odbywa się za pomocą buforu o określonej sile jonowej, pH i zadanym składzie. W badaniach założono, że rozkład temperatury w całej długości kapilary nie jest jednolity i może zatem prowadzić do powstawania wielu błędów podczas wyznaczania ruchliwości elektroforetycznych oraz elektroosmotycznych. W naszych badaniach znaleźliśmy metodę na oszacowanie tych błędów dzięki podziałowi kapilary na części termostatowane oraz pozbawione efektywnej kontroli nad temperaturą.
