The level of stress and parental attitudes towards children with cleft lip and palate

Wstęp. Rozszczep wargi i podniebienia jest jedną z najczęstszych i najtrudniejszych do leczenia wad wrodzonych u dzieci. Wieloetapowe leczenie trwa latami, wymaga wiedzy i doświadczenia kilku specjalistów jednocześnie - chirurgów, ortodontów, laryngologów i foniatrów. U dziecka wywołuje nie tylko zaburzenia czynności organizmu, ale również zmienia jego psychiczne i społeczne funkcjonowanie. Rodzice żyją w ciągłym stresie i napięciu prowadzi to do zmian w obrębie kształtowania się postaw rodzicielskich, stylów wychowania i funkcji rodziny, a w szczególności działań opiekuńczo – wychowawczych tak, aby rodzina mogła sprostać nowym zadaniom.Cel pracy. Celem pracy była ocena zależności pomiędzy poziomem stresu, a postawami rodzicielskimi rodziców dzieci z rozszczepem wargi i podniebienia.Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono od lutego do końca sierpnia 2011roku w Uniwersyteckim Szpitalu Dziecięcym w Krakowie wśród rodziców dzieci z rozszczepem wargi i podniebienia (40 rodziców w tym 4 pary małżeńskie, 26 matek i 6 ojców). Do badań wykorzystano wystandaryzowaną skalę oceny postaw rodzicielskich wg Plopy Mieczysława, natomiast style radzenia sobie ze stresem zbadano Kwestionariuszem Radzenia Sobie w Sytuacjach Stresowych CISS. Zgromadzony materiał badawczy poddano weryfikacji statystycznej, w której wykorzystano współczynnik korelacji rang Spearmana i nieparametryczny test U Manna – Whitneya.Wyniki i wnioski. Badania wykazały, że wśród rodziców dzieci z rozszczepem wargi i podniebienia wyraźnie dominowała postawa niekonsekwentna i zadaniowy styl radzenia sobie w sytuacji stresowej jaką jest choroba dziecka. Na podstawie analizy wyników stwierdzono, że rodzic bardziej skoncentrowany na zadaniowym stylu radzenia sobie ze stresem przejawia wyższy poziom ochraniającej oraz wymagającej postawy rodzicielskiej. Zarówno kobiety jak i mężczyźni przejawiali podobne style radzenia sobie ze stresem i postawy rodzicielskie.Introduction. Cleft the lip and palate is one of the most common and most difficult to treat congenital defects in children. Multistep treatment lasts for years, requires knowledge and experience of several specialists at the same time - surgeonis, orthodontists, otolaryngologists and doctors in phoniatrics. In child causes not only the dysfunction of the body, but also changes the psychological and social functioning.Parents live in constant stress and tension; it leads to changes within the formation of parental attitudes, styles of upbringing and family functions, in particular upbringing and care activities so that the family could meet the new challenges.Aim of the research. The aim of this research was to evaluate the relationship between the level of stress, and parental attitudes of parents of children with cleft of lip and palate.Materials and methods. The research was conducted from February to the end of August 2011 in the University Children's Hospital in Cracow among parents of children with cleft lip and palate (40 parents, including four married couples, 26 mothers and six fathers). The study used a standardized scale for assessing parental attitudes by Mieczyslaw Plopa, whereas the styles of coping with stress were examined by the Coping Invntory for Stressful Situations CISS. The collected material was subjected to statistical verification, in which was used a Spearman's rank correlation coefficient test and the nonparametric Mann - Whitney test.Results and conclusions. The study found that among parents of children with cleft lip and palate clearly dominated the inconsistent attitude and tasking style of coping in a stressful situation that is the illness of a child. Based on the analysis results, stated that the parent who is more focused on tasking style of coping with stress demonstrates a higher level of protecting and requiring parental attitude. Both women and men showed the similar styles of coping with stress and parental attitudes
