Raphael Santi as portraitist

The title of my work is ‘Raphael as portraitist’. The topic is analyze Raphael’s Santi portraits. Description of stages of his creativity and description in the context of the era. The output element is to clarify the definition of the portrait. From Latin word ‘portraho’ used in the Middle Ages, portrait is a presentation of human appearance made in different techniques.The history of portrait go back to the eastern ancient art. Was enriched and developed also in ancient Greece in age V B.C. and Rome. In Middle Ages portraits tradition existed in sculpture tombstone, in a series of images of ecclesiastical authorities and in painting book. Portrait as independent type of painting appeared in the late Gothic painting French, Dutch and German and was prevalent in the Italian Renaissance art. The time of the Renaissance was a turning point in the history of the portrait. In the XIV and XV century portrait became an autonomous species. In the formation of the modern portrait major role played by the Italian environment, especially Raphael’s circle with himself at the forefront. Raphael Santi, born in Urbino, was stayed at the local court of princes da Montefeltro. He received orders to altars in Perugii and Citta di Castello, where probably was a student of Pietro Perugia. In 1504 he moved to Florence, where he realized important contracts for portraits and numerous paintings of Madonna with Child. While he was in Florence Raphael made friends with local artists. He studied works of the great artists of the Florentine: Donatello, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. In the 1508 Raphael went to Rome. Over there he highly expanded the artistic activity and enriched his artistic achievements. He worked at the Vatican Palace decoration, as the architect of Saint Peter's Basilica. It seems that the Roman stage was the most prolific period in the life of the artist. In this paper, I present the expansion course of Raphaels portraits in each period and the influence that exerted on his work the most important artists he came into contact.Draft how his style was shape. Describe the conventions used by the artist and what was his influence and how he developed them.Tytuł mojej pracy brzmi „Rafael jako portrecista”. A tematem są portrety Rafaela Santi, ich analiza. Opis etapów jego twórczości i opis ich w kontekście epoki.Wyjściowym elementem jest sprecyzowanie definicji portretu. Od używanego w średniowieczu łacińskiego słowa „protraho” portret jest przedstawieniem wyglądu człowieka wykonanym w różnych technikach.Historia portretu sięga wschodniej sztuki starożytnej. Została wzbogacona i rozwinięta również w starożytnej Grecji w wieku V p. n. e. i Rzymie. W średniowieczu istniała tradycja portretowa w rzeźbie nagrobnej, w seriach obrazów autorytetów kościelnych oraz w malarstwie książkowym. Portret jako samodzielny gatunek malarski pojawił się w późnogotyckim malarstwie francuskim, niderlandzkim i niemieckim a rozpowszechniony został we włoskiej sztuce renesansowej. Czas Renesansu stanowił punkt zwrotny w historii portretu. W wieku XIV i XV portret stał się autonomicznym gatunkiem. W ukształtowaniu się portretu nowożytnego zasadniczą rolę odegrało środowisko włoskie, szczególnie krąg Rafaela z nim samym na czele. Rafael Santi, urodzony w Urbino przebywał na tamtejszym dworze książąt da Montefeltro. Otrzymywał zamówienia na ołtarze w Perugii i Citta di Castello, gdzie prawdopodobnie był uczniem Pietra Perugina. W r. 1504 przeniósł się do Florencji, gdzie realizował ważne zamówienia na portrety czy liczne obrazy Madonn z dzieciątkiem. Będąc we Florencji Rafael zaprzyjaźnił się z lokalnymi artystami. Studiował dzieła wielkich artystów florenckich: Donatella, Michała Anioła i Leonarda da Vinci. W r. 1508 Rafael udał się do Rzymu. Tam też znacznie rozszerzył działalność artystyczną, wzbogacając tym samym swój dorobek artystyczny. Pracował przy dekoracji Pałacu Watykańskiego, jako architekt bazyliki św. Piotra. Wydaje się, że etap rzymski był okresem najbardziej płodnym w życiu artysty.W niniejszej pracy przedstawiam proces rozwoju portretów Rafaela w poszczególnych okresach i jaki wpływ wywarły na jego obrazy najważniejsi artyści, z których dziełami miał do czynienia. Nakreślam jak ukształtował się jego styl. Opisuję stosowane przez artystę konwencje oraz jak na nie wpłynął i je rozwinął
