Discourse of History – Discourse of Memory. Warsaw Uprising in the tellings of Miron Białoszewski and Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz

The present thesis brings forward an analysis of Miron Białoszewski's "A Memoir of the Warsaw Uprising" and "Kinderszenen" by Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz in the context of contemporary historical culture and Pierre Nora's theory of the "sites of memory". Memory plays an increasingly significant role in shaping the picture of the past in the present. Not only artistic ventures turn towards memory, but also does modern historiography, particularily microhistories and alternate histories. Likewise, the historical and memorial discourse do interweave in the narrations of Białoszewski and Rymkiewicz. Memory constitutes the dominant in both accounts, which at the same time closely approach a scientific representation. As an outcome of such combination they exhibit a potential to create a "different" picture of the past, which is tailored to the contemporary historical sensibility. To the discourse of memory strongly correspond also the most recent intermedial approaches at the themes of the Warsaw Uprising, which constitute an additional context to the present work.Praca przedstawia analizę "Pamiętnika z powstania warszawskiego" Mirona Białoszewskiego oraz "Kinderszenen" Jarosława Marka Rymkiewicza w kontekście współczesnej kultury historycznej i teorii "miejsc pamięci" Pierre'a Nory. W kształtowaniu obrazu przeszłości coraz istotniejszą rolę odgrywa obecnie pamięć. Zwracają się ku niej nie tylko praktyki artystyczne, ale także nowoczesna historiografia, szczególnie mikrohistorie i historie alternatywne. Dyskursy historyczny i wspomnieniowy przenikają się również w narracjach Białoszewskiego i Rymkiewicza. Dominantę obu opowieści stanowi pamięć, jednocześnie jednak są one bliskie przedstawieniu naukowemu. Dzięki takiemu połączeniu wykazują potencjał kreowania "innego" obrazu przeszłości, dostosowanego do współczesnej wrażliwości historycznej. Z dyskursem pamięci silnie korespondują także najnowsze, intermedialne realizacje tematu Powstania Warszawskiego, które stanowią dodatkowy kontekst pracy
