(2) Speaking skill is a complex skill requiring the simultaneous use of a number of different abilities which often develop at different rates. (3) Ability means the mental or physical capacity, power or skill required to do something.\ud \ud The research describes teacher’s strategies in improving students’ ability in speaking at 10th grade of Darul Istiqamah male Boarding School Barabai. The statements of the problems in this research are: How are the teacher’s strategies in improving students’ ability in speaking at tenth grade of Darul Istiqamah male Boarding School Barabai, and what are the problems or difficulties that the teacher finds in improving students’ ability in speaking at tenth grade of Darul Istiqamah male Boarding School Barabai.\ud \ud The subject of the research is the tenth grade’s English teacher of Darul Istiqamah male Boarding School Barabai. The object of this research is the strategies that the teacher uses in improving students’ ability in speaking skill at tenth grade of Darul Istiqamah male Boarding School Barabai.\ud \ud To collect data the writer uses some techniques: observation, interview, and documentary. Data processing in this research is divided into three phases: editing, classification, and data interpretation. Then, all the data are analyzed by using descriptive qualitative.\ud \ud Based on research results about the teacher’s strategies in improving students’ ability in speaking skill at tenth grade of Darul Istiqamah male Boarding School Barabai, it can be seen that teacher uses jigsaw classroom, classroom discussion, classroom debate, and enriching students’ vocabulary. This research also found the teacher’s difficulties in improving students’ability in speaking skill at tenth grade of Darul Istiqamah male Boarding School Barabai are in enriching students’ vocabulary and in increasing students’ self confidence in speaking English in front of public
