In strategic management, incentives are usually considered as the factors that induce desired behaviours and/or performance of individuals, groups and organizations. It is believed that incentive conflicts between individuals and managers, managers and firm owners, and those between transaction partners are harmful to the long-term performance of organizations. Strategic management scholars have suggested many incentive designs that help to mitigate incentive conflicts, such as different compensation and governance structures.
