The influence of maternal attachment and postpartum depression on abnormal development of the child until the age of 18 months

Auffälligkeiten in der psychischen und physischen Entwicklung von Kindern scheinen zuzunehmen, auch schon im frühen Kleinkindalter, wozu wahrscheinlich suboptimale soziale Interaktionen und Beziehungen bzw. unsichere Bindungen maßgeblich beitragen. In der vorliegenden Studie wurden die Bindungsrepräsentation, pränatale Bindung und postpartaler Depressivität von 161 Erstgebärenden mit einem relativ hohem Bildungsgrad im Zusammenhang mit physischen und psychischen bzw. Verhaltensauffälligkeiten des Kindes im Alter von 18 Monaten untersucht. Eine ausgeprägte Bindungsdesorganisation und mittelgradige postpartale Depressivität der Mutter, insbesondere sechs Monate postpartum, gingen signifikant mit mehr Auffälligkeiten des Kindes in den verbindlichen Vorsorgeuntersuchungen (Kinderregeluntersuchungen U5/U6) und mit von der Mutter berichteten Verhaltensauffälligkeiten einher. Dies zeigt, dass auch bei Populationen mit höherem Bildungsgrad, welche nicht die üblichen Risikofaktoren aufweisen und denen wohl seltener frühe Hilfen angeboten werden, Unterstützung sinnvoll ist, wobei als einfach zu erfassender Indikator die postpartale Depressivität sechs Monate postpartum dienen könnte. In the present study, the association of children’s abnormal development until the age of 18 months with attachment representation, prenatal attachment and postpartum depression of their 161 primiparae mothers with a relatively high educational background were investigated. A high level of maternal attachment disorganization and even medium levels of postpartum depression were significantly linked to noticeable problems with physical and behavioral development in the regular child screening exams (at 6 and 12 months) and with the problem behaviour reported by the mothers. This suggests that also mothers without obvious and known risk factors, who are usually not targeted by early interventions, would profit from professional support. A simple indicator for a screening would be maternal depression at 6 months postpartum. (DIPF/Orig.
