This chapter provides a comprehensive review of the literature (1982-1994) for organopalladium chemistry covering those compounds containing palladium to carbon sigma bonds. In addition to fundamental chemistry, applied aspects are covered in particular in relation to the roles of palladium in organic synthesis and homogeneous catalysis. Topics include synthesis, structure and reactivity of complexes of ylides; alkyl, aryl, and alkynyl complexes; cyclometallation reactions, oxidative addition and reductive elimination chemistry; insertion reactions for carbon monoxide, isocyanide, alkenes and alkynes; palladium(0), palladium(I), palladium(II), and palladium(IV) chemistry; and investigations aimed at developing palladium(III) chemistry.
