PERAN ANGGOTA KELUARGA DALAM PENGAWASAN MINUM OBAT ANGGOTA KELUARGA DENGAN SKIZOFRENIA

Background: Mental health problems with schizophrenia is a type of problem that often experiences relapses when the patient is not routine and is regular in the treatment process by taking medication. When a family member experiences schizophrenia, the role of the family is very important in the process of healing illness. The key to the treatment of schizophrenia is medication adherence, if there is no recurrence. Therefore, in addition to the need for patient awareness, direct supervision by the family in ensuring medication adherence is also very important. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of families in the supervision of taking medication for family members with schizophrenia in Batu. The design of this study uses the case study method. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study research approach. The results of the study obtained themes, namely: (1) Family strategy in giving drugs through drinks in secret if the patient refuses to take medication (2) Family ensures directly when the patient takes medication (3) Family makes sure the drug is available at home before the drug runs out (4) Family provide understanding to patients about the importance of taking medication (5) the family reminds the patient's schedule of taking medication, and (6) the family accompany the patient to control to the hospital. The research data was taken using the interview method. Discussions from this study show the role of families in supervising taking medication in schizophrenia patients is very good. Seeing the results of this study it is necessary to have a family role in order to minimize the frequency of recurrence experienced by schizophrenics
