Anna married John Graham Dow on 18 May 1893 in a civil ceremony at a residence. The marriage is registered as having taken place at Burra, South Australia. On 1 June 1893, John joined the South Australian Police Force and was immediately transferred to the Northern Territory to be stationed at Burundi, followed by postings at Palmerston and Pine Creek. Anna accompanied her husband to the Territory. In 1895, when Anna was 26 and living in Pine Creek, she was one of the 82 women who enrolled to vote after the franchise was granted to South Australian and Territory women in 1894.
