Date:1851Mary and her husband Henry Allwright came to the Northern Territory in the 1880's to work in the Pine Creek goldfields. They managed a Pine Creek hotel, which Mary continued to run after Henry died in 1888. Mary later married a local miner and store keeper, Henry Elliot. In 1894, Mary was one of the 82 women who enrolled to vote after the franchise was granted to South Australian and Territory women. Mary was 44 and a mother of two when she enrolled to vote, along with seven other women in Pine Creek. Mary continued to live, work and raise her family in the Northern Territory until she died in Darwin in 1932.Hotel Manage
