The crew of DG88 G-ACSR, Oliver Cathcart-Jones in front, co-pilot, and Ken Wallis, check their maps prior to departing Darwin for Melbourne at 1343 hrs 23 October 1934. The pair were flying the DH88 as Race No19 in the Centenary Air Race having departed Mildenhall at 0633 GMT on 20 October. Their sponsor was Australian Bernard Rubin, a wealthy sportsman who had originally intended to fly the machine in the the race, accompanied by Ken Walker, but withdraw due to health problems. The aircraft touched down in Darwin at 1313hrs on 23 October, departing only 30 minutes later for Melbourne, where they arrived two days later at 1645hrs. On an official time of 108hrs 13mins 45secs they claimed 500 pounds third prize in the speed section.Rodd, A. H
