Sarah was born to Maria (nee Lewis) and George Bolton at Mitchells Creek, New South Wales. At 21 Sarah was in the Territory where she married Frederick George Augustus(spelled Augustace on marriage certificate) Williams on 30 September 1890at the residence of Henry Emil Schunke in Plamerston. Frederick was a 23 year old blacksmith who had been in the Territory since July 1888. The couple had eight children: Frederick, Lewis, Charles, Harold, Walter, Norman, Ada and Lionel. In 1895, when Sarah was 26, she was one of the 82 women who enrolled to vote after the franchise was granted to South Australian and Territory women in 1894.
