THS is involved in a wide range of research activities. There is considerable expertise located throughout the department and the projects undertaken have, in some cases, dramatically changed the practice of medicine both locally and further afield. THS is not always good at advertising the success of its research activities and there has been a tendency to see Menzies School of Health Research as the "place where research is done". The new Co-operative Research Centre (CRC) in Aboriginal and Tropical Health (see appendix) will provide an opportunity to blur the distinct borders that currently exist and to establish a more co-ordinated and coherent strategy for research undertaken by THS
