February 14, 1906.Dear Sister Joanna:I enclose an old returned letter, hoping that the latest address sent me by Mrs. Coleman is the right one. We are all very glad to hear that you are well on the way towards health after your long severe illness, and that all the family are well and prosperous.Helen, who had pneumonia two years ago is getting well in this dry Arizona air, but is still a source of great anxiety. I suppose she will have to remain here at least another year before she can return to the desolate California home. Wanda, fortunately, is always well, and takes care of Helen when I have to go back to California. Most of the time we are both with her.As for my ordinary literary work, I have not been able to do anything since the beginning of the last eventful trouble-ful summer, but hope to try soon again. In the meantime I am making some headway in my studies of the wonderful fossil forests hereabouts. David, I suppose you know, has left his Martinez farm and gone to the seaside at Pacific Grove. At last accounts he is well and satisfied with the change. Sarah is there too, and is growing younger and happier with her daughter and grandchildren.
