Un ejemplo de agroforestería vitícola: los sistemas de uvas tradicionales del valle de los Cintis, Bolivia

International audienceThe Cintis Valley is the oldest wine-growing area in Bolivia. In this region, a group of wine growers with unique characteristics has been identified, distinguished by centuries-old vineyards, with native varieties and the cultivation of vines in molle trees (Shimus molle) that serve as tutors, but at the same time provide other benefits to the vineyard. Despite these advantages, these systems are threatened by the constant introduction of standard technology, which is encouraged by various support institutions, argue that modern systems may have greater advantages than traditional ones, without having studied this reality, a situation that can cause the extinction of traditional systems and a problem for the region. The purpose of this paper is to describe the historical background of traditional grape systems, their main characteristics and their importance in scientific research, in order to provide the basis to protect them and revalue the Cintis region. The main results indicate that since ancient times, there are vines cultivated with trees that serve as tutors, these systems were described throughout history in various parts of the world and several epochs of history, until today. Very few were described in the scientific literature. In the Cintis Valley since the times of the Spanish colony, molle trees are associated with the vines, because this system has several advantages: pest protection, weather protection, higher yields, and influence on grape quality, increased soil organic matter and its ability to store moisture. The traditional grape systems of the Cintis is one of the most important attributes to realize the revaluation of the territory because it is one of the few contemporary experiences of viticultural agroforestry worldwide. Conducting in-depth scientific studies determines a great opportunity to contribute to the protection and valuation of the traditional grape systems of the Cintis Valley, and other parts of the world, and to contribute with the science of viticultural agroforestry.El Valle de los Cintis es la zona vitivinícola más antigua de Bolivia. En esta región se ha identificado un grupo de viticultores con características únicas, distinguidos por viñedos centenarios, con variedades autóctonas y el cultivo de vides en árboles de molle (Shimus molle) que sirven como tutores, pero a la vez le brindan otros beneficios al viñedo. A pesar de estas ventajas estos sistemas se ven amenazados por la constante introducción de tecnología estándar, que es fomentada por diversas instituciones de apoyo, arguyen que los sistemas modernos pueden tener mayores ventajas que los tradicionales, sin haber estudiado esta realidad. Esta situación puede ocasionar la extinción delos sistemas tradicionales y un problema para la región. El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo describir los antecedentes históricos de los sistemas de uva tradicionales, sus principales características y su importancia en la investigación científica, con la finalidad de brindar las bases para protegerlos y revalorizar la región de los Cintis. Los principales resultados señalan que desde la antigüedad, hay vides cultivadas con árboles que sirven como tutores, estos sistemas fueron descritos a lo largo de la historia en varias partes del mundo y varias épocas de la historia, hasta la actualidad. Muy pocas fueron descritas en la literatura científica. En el Valle de los Cintis desde tiempos de la colonia española se asocian los árboles de molle con las vides, debido a que este sistema presenta varias ventajas: protección de plagas, protección ante adversidades climatológicas, mayores rendimientos, influencia en la calidad de la uva, incremento de la materia orgánica del suelo y su capacidad de almacenar la humedad. Los sistemas uvas tradicionales de los Cintis es uno de los atributos más importantes para realizar la revalorización del territorio debido a que es una de las pocas experiencias contemporáneas de agroforestería vitícola a nivel mundial. Realizar estudios científicos en profundidad determina una gran oportunidad para contribuir con la protección y valoración de los sistemas de uvas tradicionales del Cañón de los Cintis, y otras partes del mundo, y aportar con la ciencia de la agroforestería vitícola.
