Caption: "There wasn't so much as a trickle of water in the North Canadian River when farmers and townsmen started lining bridge railings a mile northeast of Greenfield. For quiet, sunny afternoon, the minutes ticked by with surprising sluggishness. As the northwestern Oklahoma residents gathered, one from as far away as Weatherford, a county away, a number of farm machines in the vicinity were silenced. 6 Billion Gallons Capturing the attention of the group was an expected heavy river flow resulting from officials at Canton Dam starting the release 24 hours earlier of 6 billion gallons of water for municipal use in Oklahoma City. As the passing minutes dragged into a hour and then two hours, some of the men on the bridge grew restless and scrambled down into the bed of the river.
