Caption: "Construction of the largest sanitary sewer system in Oklahoma is expected to boom building in Bethany, Warr Acres and a large section of Northwest Oklahoma City. Work is now underway on the $1,450,000 project, expected to be finished within 18 months. The system consists of an 8-mile line extending north from Warr Acres past Lake Hefner to a new sewage disposal plant. Builders Poised Completion of the system will open up more than 25 square miles of undeveloped land in an area north of Bethany and Warr Acres, mainly north and west of Lake Hefner. Area builders are poised to begin new home construction in the area, as soon as the huge sewer line is in operation. Ope Up Area Harry B. McCrory, Bethany city manager, said the new line and disposal plant and a $292,000 sewage intercepting line now under construction in west Bethany "will open all of Bethany to potential growth...The federal government is contributing its maximum aid on such a project of $250,000 through the U. S. Public Health Service. The federal government also is supplying $40,000 toward construction of Bethany's $292,000 intercepting line.......McCrory said Bethany began working on the project about two and a half years ago. He said he believes the sewer facilities will create a home building boom in Bethany, Warr Acres and the entire northwest section of Oklahoma City...Bethany's population increased from 5,705 in 1950 to 12,342 last year. A survey made for the city indicates the 1970 population will be 22.984. Full development of Bethany is expected to produce a maximum population of 31,521. Warr Acres is in a similar situation. That city's population increased from 2,378 in 1950 to 7,135 last year. The estimated 1970 population is 13,510 with the maximum population set at 13,680...The outfall line runs froma point at NW 50 on the Bethany-Warr Acres border north along the west side of Lake Hefner. The line swings east north of Lake Hefner and then continues north to a point one mile north of the Edmond Road where it connects with a sewage plant.
