RF switches are the fundamental building blocks for realizing reconfigurable front-ends in communication devices. Currently available RF switches are dominated by semiconductor technology which, while performing adequately up to a few GHz, suffer from signal leakage issues at millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies. On the other hand, mechanical RF components provide exceptional RF performance and reliability, but are bulky and expensive, whereas switches based on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) have reliability issues and require high actuation voltage.
