Positioning of Córdoba in idiomastic tourism: weaknesses and strengths

Undoubtedly cultural exchange and language teaching are interrelated in an increasingly globalized world. Therefore, Spanish teaching as a foreign language is being gradually considered as a tourist resort in Spain.We are currently in a time of great sexy world of the Spanish language, mainly to figure among the three main languages in use in trade and cultural exchanges around the world, being the most widespread second in Internet and mother tongue in more than twenty countries.Great Britain is a mature destination in this tourism typology, however, in Spain begins to stand out. For that reason, it is a destination which is developing, making this stage coincide with a time when Spanish language is getting a great global appeal and it is internationally widespread.Language tourism did not originate in Spain; it has for many years been promoted in the United Kingdom, France and Germany as a sub-section of cultural tourism.In this article we analyze the current positioning of Córdoba as a destination for this tourist typology in order to diagnose and identify the main challenges and destination opportunitiesEl turismo idiomático tiene como principalobjetivo el aprendizaje de idiomas, necesidad primordial en un mundo tan globalizado,en el que el intercambio cultural y enseñanza de idiomas se interrelacionan entre sí. Elespañol tiene un gran atractivo actualmente ya que figura entre los tres principales idiomas de uso en los intercambios comerciales y culturales a nivel mundial, siendo el segundo más extendido en Internet y lengua materna en más de veinte países.En consecuencia,la enseñanza de español para extranjeros es cada vez más considerada un recurso turístico en España.Sabemos España es el tercer destino más visitado del mundo y líder indiscutible en turismo de sol y playa, pero lo cierto es que empieza a convivir con el turismo idiomático. El turismo idiomático no es una actividad originaria de España, ya que países como el Reino Unido, Francia o Alemania lo incluyen en su actividad promocional desde hace décadas, considerándolo un sub-segmento del turismo cultural. En este aartículo hacemos un análisis del posicionamiento actual de Córdoba como destino de esta tipología turística con el objeto de diagnosticar e identificar los principales retos y oportunidades del destino
