DEVELOPING AN ACCOUNTABLE CARE COMMUNITY TO IMPROVE THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT IN ROBESON COUNTY, NC

Social determinants of health (SDoH) are conditions that affect the places where people live, learn, work, and play, and impact a wide range of health risks and outcomes. The built environment is a SDoH that includes housing, transportation, safety, parks, playgrounds, and overall geographical setting. In Robeson County, NC the built environment around the Lumber River flood plain is a challenge that impacts the health of the Lumbee Tribe. With a goal of addressing this challenge, we analyzed the system of the built environment to form an Accountable Care Community (ACC). The goal of the ACC is to provide funding for rebuilding/repairing houses affected by hurricanes and flooding, by increasing the budget for the Lumbee Housing Department and working with the Robeson County Housing Authority’s access to disaster assistance, in order to address the community’s need to improve the built environment.Master of Public Healt
