A damaged tail pipe of a helicopter was sent to the laboratory for investigation. The damages were in the form of fracture and cracks. Detailed fractographic examination was conducted in an effort to establish the failure mechanism. Microstructural study and hardness measurements were also conducted on samples taken from the damaged regions. The findings are summarized in this report
