The paper describes the implementation of a Ladevèze continuum damage model to simulate intra-ply damage, plasticity and failure of unidirectional fibre reinforced plastics with plane stress elements. The material model is coded in FORTRAN user subroutines within the framework of the commercial Finite Element (FE) Analysis Software Abaqus FEA. A material model for the explicit solver is developed including damage, plasticity and failure algorithms. Also a simplified implicit version which does not incorporate plasticity is presented in the paper. The material model is verified on the single element level showing the expected material behaviour and a stable numerical performance.
