The Caribbean territory is a complex issue to define, due to its political, idiomatic, cultural and ethnic conformation. The following text presents a sample of such configuration. Several poems written by Venezuelan writers Manuel Rodríguez Cárdenas and Miguel James are reviewed. They assume the Afrovenezuelan man and woman as main characters for their poetry. They own a self-voice in order to fight for their liberation; their complexion is the reason for admiration and beauty. They belong to themselves; they recognize themselves as such and exalt their virtues. They do not have intermediates to express themselves.
