It is usually thought that unconditional love is exclusive of the existing relationship between mother and child because of the dependency of the object of love. However, love is not an object external to us, but an inherent ability to trust and it must be exercised. The reason why this evidence has been forgotten is because emotions are thought to be irrational and that they cannot be controlled.
