Dengue: a reemerging disease in Cusco department, Peru.

Dengue is an infectious disease caused by a systemic Flavovirus which is transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes aegypti and albopictus species (1). The incidence of dengue in the Americas in recent years has increased and spread in several countries, being mostly affected the tropical and subtropical regions, with an increase of the disease in urban and suburban areas, thus constituting a major public health problem, especially in developing countries (1). In Peru, in the departments of Loreto, Madre de Dios, Tumbes Cajamarca, Cusco, Lambayeque, Huanuco, La Libertad and Puno in the last year the highest number of confirmed cases was reported and increased outbreaks of dengue in the country (2 ).El dengue es una enfermedad infecciosa y sistémica ocasionada por un flavovirus que es transmitida mediante los mosquitos del género Aedes, especies aegypti y albopictus (1). La incidencia de dengue en América en los últimos años se incrementó y extendió en varios países, siendo mayormente afectadas las regiones tropicales y subtropicales, con un incremento de la enfermedad en zonas urbanas y suburbanas, constituyendo de esta manera un importante problema de salud pública, sobre todo en países en vías de desarrollo (1). En el Perú, en departamentos como Loreto, Madre de Dios, Tumbes Cajamarca, Cusco, Lambayeque, Huánuco, La Libertad y Puno en el último año se comunicó la mayor cantidad de casos confirmados y el incremento de brotes de dengue en el país (2)
