Hokusai Manga (北斎漫画), Vol. 12

Original woodblock printed Hokusai Manga book. Possibly earlier printing than other numbered volumes in this collection. Brown covers stab-bound with black thread. Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese printmaker, painter, 1760-1849) is noted for Edo period works of ukiyo-e (\u27pictures of the floating world\u27) in painting and printmaking. He had a long career of over 70 years and is thought to have created over 30,000 drawings and illustrations for 500 books under multiple names typically associated with shifts in production and style. Since the late 19th century, his work has had a significant impact on Western artists, including Gauguin and van Gogh.
